Performing Arts: PREVIEW: Boogie Nights ***; Richmond Theatre, London, Monday until Saturday.
Dust off your platforms, fluff those Afros, throw on some glitter and get out your flares. Oh, and make sure you've got your money to get back into Wales after a night on the tiles to see Boogie Nights, the smash hit '70s musical, in London. Starring Sam Kane and Sophie Lawrence, Boogie Nights is a monster party that has had audiences literally dancing in the aisles. It is a roller coaster ride of birds, booze and boogie, all seen through the eyes of loveable but unreliable Jack the Lad, Roddy and his long suffering girlfriend Debs. The show's creator, Jon Conway, says he's confident that the brand new cast will bring a new dimension to the production. He said, ``Sam Kane as hero Roddy is one of only a handful of actors who could follow Shane and this he will do in his own inimitable style. ``Sophie Lawrence is bringing her considerable ex-perience and talent to the Debs character and I am thrilled with the talent of the new cast we have assembled.'' Kane has been working constantly since leaving Brookside, attracting great reviews for his stage musical roles, touring in Carousel and Seven Brides for Seven Brothers as well as presenting and guesting on numerous TV shows. And it's good to see Sophie Lawrence back in harness since leaving her role as Diane Butcher in EastEnders many moons ago. Sparkling like a giant glitter ball, the classic hits include YMCA, Celebration, I Will Survive, Sugar Baby Love and Play That Funky Music. Songs that people of all ages can get on down and boogie to.
