US Air Force Chief of Staff General John P. Jumper was expected to retire after 39 years of service at an Andrews AFB, MD, ceremony Sept. 2. His effective date of retirement will be November 1, 2005. Acting Secretary of the Air Force Pete Geren was expected to host the ceremony, at which General T. Michael Moseley, currently serving as Air Force vice chief of staff, would be sworn in as the 18th Air Force chief of staff.... EADS Defense and Communications Systems (Munich, Germany) named Herve Guillou its new CEO, replacing Stefan Zoller, who has been made CEO of EADS Defense and Security Systems. Guillou was previously CEO of EADS Space Transportation.... Several people joined the executive team overseeing MEADS International (Orlando, FL), the multinational company developing the Medium Extended Air Defense System. Volker Weidemann replaces Dr. Keith Huddleston, who is retiring, as director of the company's system-engineering and integration team. Taking over for Weidemann as deputy director of the same team is Robert Grubbs, who was previously manager of the Systems Engineering Branch. In addition, Martin Coyne, formerly a business-development director at Boeing, was named MEADS International's business-development director.... BAE Systems (Nashua, NH) announced that Thomas A. Arseneault is president of its new Sensor Systems business, which is part of the company's Electronics & Integrated Solutions Operating Group. Arseneault was previously vice president of engineering at BAE's Systems Information and Electronic Warfare Systems business. In addition, BAE, Systems named John Lydiard chief of staff of the Electronics and Integrated Solutions Operating Group, covering security, government-relations, and information-technology operations.... David L. Ryan was named vice president of payloads and sensors for Northrop Grumman's Space Technology sector (Redondo Beach, CA), overseeing subcontracting activities involving the National Polar-Orbiting Operational Environmental Satellite System, the James Webb Space Telescope, the Space Tracking and Surveillance System, Space Radar, and other programs. Ryan previously was vice president and general, manager of Boeing Space and Intelligence Systems.... The Royal Australian Navy announced that the duties of Maritime Commander Australia have formally been passed from Rear Admiral Rowan Moffitt, AM, to Rear Admiral Davyd Thomas, AM, CSC. The Maritime Commander Australia is responsible for maintaining the Navy's operational standards and overseeing combined, joint, and maritime operations. Rear Admiral Moffitt is now deputy chief of joint operations at Headquarters Joint Operations Command, Sydney.... Admiral Edmund P. Giambastiani, Jr., formerly commander of US Joint Forces Command has been confirmed as vice chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff. He succeeds Marine Corps Gen. Peter Pace, who was recently appointed chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
