Pentagon to extend deployment of troops on border with Mexico.

[01/December/2018] SANAA, Dec. 1 (Saba) - The Pentagon has received a request on Friday from the Donald Trump administration to extend its deployment of troops on the border with Mexico to the end of January after its original deadline on Dec. 15, US officials said. US Secretary of Defense Jim Matisse is expected to approve the extension of the mission after he strongly suggested last week that the United States Department of Homeland Security is preparing such a request. President Donald Trump ordered the deployment of the troops ahead of midterm elections as part of an effort to stem illegal immigration as thousands of migrants fleeing violence in Central America poured into the United States. Border security is a key issue among voters in Trump's Republican Party. AA Saba
