Pentagon chief says will cooperate with House impeachment inquiry.

WASHINGTON, Oct 13 (KUNA) -- US Secretary of Defense Mark Esper said that the Pentagon will do "everything we can to cooperate with the Congress" regarding the Democrats' House impeachment inquiry of President Donald Trump. On an interview on CBS network, Esper said "we will do everything we can to cooperate with the Congress." He added that recently, his general counsel "sent out a note as we typically do in these situations to ensure documents are retained." Asked if he will comply with the subpoena, Esper said "we will do everything we can to comply." Furthermore, the Pentagon chief reiterated on Fox network "we will do everything we can to respond to their inquiry," saying "so again, we will respond as we can." "I don't know the status of what that document preparation is. I don't know what restrictions we may have internally with regard to releasing them. The White House has a say on the release of documents as well," he added. House Democrats have subpoenaed the Secretary of Defense and Department of Defense (DOD) to hand over, by Tuesday, all documents related to decisions being made about authorization and then the decision to withhold military aide to Ukraine. The three House Democratic chairmen leading the impeachment inquiry had wrote in letters to Esper and acting Office of Management and Budget Director Russ Vought asking "the enclosed subpoena demands documents that are necessary for the Committees to examine this sequence of these events and the reasons behind the White House's decision to withhold critical military assistance to Ukraine that was appropriated by Congress to counter Russian aggression."(end) si.ibi
