Pensions directly credited to bank accounts of pensioners: NA told.
ISLAMABAD -- Parliamentary Secretary for Finance Rana Mohammad Afzal on Wednesday informed the National Assembly that under the new pension disbursement scheme, pension is directly being credited to the bank accounts of the pensioners.
He was responding to a call attention notice by Khalida Mansoor and Nighat Parveen Mir regarding problems faced by government employees to receive pensions.
He said previously 2.5 million pensioners were drawing pensions from specified banks and their branches but now all banks and their branches had been authorized to pay pensions. Now pensioners can draw their amount from ATMs across the country, he added.
Afzal said banks had also been directed to provide necessary facilities including shaded waiting areas and bathrooms for pensioners.
He said documents of the pensioners are prepared six months before their retirement.
The Secretary agreed with suggestion that easy paisa should be utilized for disbursement of the pension.
On another calling attention notice, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Aftab Sheikh said a report would be submitted to the house regarding 26 girls, who were being held hostage in a house in Karachi.
