Pensioner who tried to lure boy for sex.

A PREDATOR pensioner tried to lure a schoolboy to a Metro interchange after posing as a teenager online.

Married grandfather Michael Gosling pretended he was a Year 10 pupil living in a "posh" part of Gosforth when he targeted the 15-year-old in a chat room.

Gosling, 66, from Orney Close, Newcastle, made excuses why he would not show his face on a web cam.

He sent explicit messages to the boy, asked him for a revealing photograph, and set up a meeting at Four Lane Ends Metro Station, Newcastle Crown Court heard.

He later admitted he wanted the rendezvous to lead to sex.

But the wary boy missed the meeting the court was told.

And he contacted police when he saw Gosling's hands during a later web cam session and realised he was an older man even though his face was still hidden.

Imposing a 16-month jail sentence, Mr Justice Clarke, said: "This was premeditated.

"There was very great disparity between your age and you used deception in setting up the meeting."

Gosling - whose wife of more than 40 years has left him - admitted inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.

As well as the jail term he was given an indefinite sexual offences prevention order and must register as a sex offender for the next 10 years.

His computer and mobile were seized under depravation orders.

Peter Schofield, defending, said Gosling had already suffered personal punishment.

He told the court: "When police came to arrest him, there his marriage ended. It is a heavy penalty for him."
