Pen problem costs Moors chance of FA Cup dream.

Blackpool 3 Solihull Moors 2 A CONTROVERSIAL extra-time penalty consigned Solihull Moors to defeat in pursuit of a plum FA Cup tie with Arsenal.

Jay Spearing, a finalist in 2012 with Liverpool, slotted away from 12 yards to seal League One Blackpool's progress 3-2 over the plucky National League outfit.

Moors had trailed by two inside 20 minutes but an own goal from Donervon Daniels and Adi Yussuf's penalty early in the second half restored parity before the visitors enjoyed the better of the rest of the 90 minutes.

The Tangerines led through the first chance of the game after 10 minutes when Armand Gnanduilett stole a march to sweep in Jordan Thompson's inviting corner. Solihull should have equalised six minutes later but Yussuf struggled to get the ball out of his feet and was denied by the legs of keeper Mark Howard from six yards.

That missed opportunity was punished when Marc Bola scampered on to an arcing Thompson ball into the channel with his cross steered home by Joe Dodoo 20 minutes in. Solihull gradually worked their way back into contention and the deficit was halved when Jamey Osborne's long throw looped up off the shoulder of Daniels and into the net. Moors had their hosts creaking under the pressure of set-pieces before halftime and continued after the restart. Alex Gudger just missed Danny Wright's flick across goal moments before tangling Spearing while trying to recycle another corner. Yussuf did the honours from 12 yards.

Solihull piled on the pressure but could not make it count and then gradually tired during extra-time. The decisive moment came when a hooked clearance saw Osborne catch Gnanduilett with referee Andy Haines pointing to the spot and Spearing rifled low to Boot's right.
