Pelmorex to create regional radio network in northeast

Pelmorex Broadcasting Inc. has reached an agreement with Novanet Communications Limited to create a new regional radio satellite network serving northeastern Ontario.

The network will allow Pelmorex to transmit programs originating from Sudbury to its radio stations in Blind River, Elliot Lake, Espanola, Hearst, Kapuskasing, North Bay, Sault Ste. Marie, Timmins, Wawa, Pembroke and Arnprior.

"This new satellite network opens a host of opportunities for Pelmorex listeners. We will now be capable of providing Northern and eastern Ontario with first-rate regional news and relevant regional programming," said Pierre L. Morriesette, president and CEO of Mississauga-based Pelmorex.

"Wide distances separate our markets, and this new network provides an important communications link to bring people together."

Pelmorex expects the network to be operational by next spring. The company's stations include CHNO-CJMX and CFBR in Sudbury, CKNR of Blind River, CKNS of Espanola, CKAP and CFLK of Kapuskasing, CHUR of North Bay, CKCY-CJQM of Sault Ste. Marie, CFCL of Timmins and CJWA of Wawa.
