Peace Corps returns.

U.S. Peace Corps volunteers will soon return to St. Kitts, it was reported July 31. A three-man team from the St. Lucia-based U.S. Peace Corps Office in the Eastern Caribbean visited Basseterre to locate local office space, identify local staff and hold discussions with government and private sector officials. "We want to hire an Associate Peace Corps Director who would be in charge of the program for St. Kitts and Nevis, a medical officer, who will be in charge of taking care of the health of the Peace Corps volunteers and some adjunct staff," said Castries-based Programming and Training Officer at the Peace Corps Office in the Eastern Caribbean, Mr. Andrew Tonks. "We still have a focus of working in communities and to respond to communities, but the needs have changed over time and so our response is changing. Now, instead of providing the teacher, as happened in the past, we are working to train teachers because there is already more of a base of trained skilled people in the countries that we work in, especially like places like St. Kitts & Nevis. So our job is to help to improve the services by doing capacity transfer and skills transfer for those people who are providing the services. So we would work to train teachers rather than be teachers," said Tonks. Details: Email:sknpmpresssec@hotmail.com
