Pay raises all 'round.

Salaries will rise 1.6 per cent on average in 2006--or 0.6 per cent when adjusted for inflation, says a UBS survey of employers in 19 industrial sectors.

UBS said employers are optimistic after the Swiss government revised its growth forecast upward and October economic indicators came in higher than anytime in the past year. Two-thirds of employers expect a moderate up turn through 2006, although fewer than one in five will hire more people, UBS added.

The construction industry will see the best raises at 2.5 per cent, followed by information technologies at 2.2 per cent and chemical makers at 2.1 per cent. UBS also predicts a one per cent boost for workers in 'print and graphics' companies. Hmm ... does that include editors?
