Past is coming alive.

Plans are under way for the largest local and family history fair to be held in County Durham in May.

Yesterday Belongs to You 8 ( organised and hosted by Durham County Council ( is to be held at County Hall, Durham, on Saturday, May 12.

The last fair in 2005 attracted more than 2,500 people and more than 90 organisations, from history societies to major museums.

Council community heritage officer Julie Hawthorn said: "Interest in local and family history seems never-ending."

She said the fair was "a gold mine of information with enthusiastic, friendly people who have a wealth of experience to guide you."

Yesterday Belongs to You 8 is from 10.30am to 4pm. Refreshments and free parking will be available.
