Passenger numbers at Frankfurt Airport almost unchanged in February.

Fraport AG has reported that the number of passengers at the Frankfurt Airport remained virtually unchanged in February 2006.

The airport operator reported that 3,432,246 passengers used the airport in February 2006, which was 0.1% fewer than in the same month last year. Flight cancellations caused by severe winter conditions with heavy snowfall throughout Europe negatively affected traffic results. Increases were registered for international passenger traffic in February 2006, primarily to the destinations of South Africa, Asia, and the Gulf States.

Aircraft movements increased slightly despite adverse winter conditions, the end of military charter flights after the closure of the US Rhein-Main Air Base at the south side of Frankfurt Airport, and capacity bottlenecks, the airport said.

In February 2006 FRA's take-offs and landings rose by 0.4% to 36,039. This also represented a new historic February record.
