Party time as Obama arrives.

WASHINGTON was preparing to party last night to celebrate Barack Obama's imminent inauguration as US president.

Obama, vice-presidentelect Joe Biden and their families arrived the night before by train from Philadelphia - a journey recalling that of Abraham Lincoln in 1861.

Yesterday, Obama and Biden began by placing a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknowns in Arlington National Cemetery, on the Virginia side of the Potomac River.

And last night, some of the biggest names in music were set to honour Obama in a concert at the Lincoln Memorial.

The all-star line-up included Beyonce, U2, Bruce Springsteen, Sheryl Crow, Josh Groban, Stevie Wonder and Garth Brooks.
