Parties demand withdrawal of oil price hike.


KARACHI -- Religious and political parties have strongly condemned the increase in POL prices and demanded the government to withdraw the raise as it would affect the citizen.

Accusing government, they said that since long ruling government has not taken any steps to curb miseries of the people while has given a big blow on the poor people with a gift of increase in POL prices on eve of New Year.

Various parties leadership including the Pakistan People's Party (PPP), Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P), Awami National Party (ANP), Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), Sunni Tehreek (ST), Jafferia Alliance (JA), Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM), Jamiat-e-Ulema Islam (JUI) and others rejecting the increase has said that another upward revision in the price of petroleum prices has generated resentment among the general public and it would compel them to take to streets as the economic hub of the county is already facing different crisis in municipal services and others.

Condemning the federal government decision to increase POL prices, PPP Karachi Chapter leadership has termed the decision an open enmity with the people. They demanded of the government not only withdraw the recent increase POL prices but also announce at least 50 per cent reduction.

They further warned that the PPP would not tolerate such acts of the federal government and would bring the people on roads to condemn the mess created by the PML-Nawaz ruling government. Since last five years the ruling government is sucking the blood of poor by taking anti-people decisions, while Sharif led PML-Nawaz were responsible for rocketing price-hike in the country, they added.

Talking to The Nation MQM-P member of coordination committee Ameenul Haq condemning the hike described the move 'undue' and said the recent increase of POL price on eve of New Year would only overburden the poor class. He said that ruling government has been continuously disregarding the people by increasing the prices of POL products and it seems like rulers has neglected the hardship and problems being faced by common man. It would increase inflation and miseries of people said Ameen and demanded an immediate withdrawal of the increase in the prices of all POL products.

PML-Nawaz led federal government practicing anti-people polices since long which has forced the people to acquire illegal means for earning their livelihood said Firdous Shamim Naqvi, PTI Karachi President. He said PML-Nawaz during its rule has failed to provide any relief to the masses and had been making it difficult for the people to survive. Sharif Brothers led government has once again made an attempt to wipe out the poor people from the picture, PTI rejects the current increase in POL prices and demanded the government to withdraw its decision immediately, he added.

He further said that current increase in POL prices would cause a constant increase in the prices of the all commodities, including the essential items. And it is awful that government instead of making any reduction has shifted its burden on the people of the country. He said that PML-Nawaz led federal government had made tall claims to bring economic prosperity along with poverty alleviation but actually during the tenure of the present government inflation has increased remarkably, concluded Naqvi. POL prices always result further increase in prices of all commodities and transport fares JI Spokesperson told The Nation. He said government since long has been neglecting the people issues and had given priority to its luxuries. The recent increase in POL prices indicates that the rulers have no sympathy for the people of the country.

Jamaat-e-Islami has also submitted adjournment motion in the National Assembly over the issue, he informed and asked the government to reduce the POL prices in order to give some relief to citizens.
