Parliament of Kyrgyzstan passes amendments barring men from wearing hats during national anthem in 1st reading.

The Parliament of Kyrgyzstan passed amendments to the law on state symbols in the first reading on February 25.The author of the amendments, MP Tursunbai Bakir uulu, said the national emblem should not be portrayed on business cards except for business cards of public servants. The size of the national emblem should not be less or lower than national emblems of other countries. During the national anthem the citizens of Kyrgyzstan should stand upright without headwear. However, there are some exceptions when headwear can be worn during the national anthem. This includes the national hat ak kalpak, headwear can be worn in case of bad weather conditions, for health reasons, in case of special uniform of the military. Headwear can be worn by people during the national anthem if this is required by religion.These amendments are expected to strengthen respect for the state symbols and to bolster patriotism of citizens, MP Tursunbai Bakir uulu said.Insult of the state symbols will be punished with a fine or 1-year imprisonment.
