Parliament dissolved in ceremony [...].

THE Scottish Parliament was formally dissolved yesterday ahead of the UK General Election.

The Lord Lyon King of Arms, Dr Joe Morrow QC, conducted the traditional ceremony on Mercat Cross, Edinburgh.

He was accompanied by the heralds, pursuivants and the herald trumpeters.

Soldiers from the Balaklava Company (5 SCOTS) of The Royal Regiment of Scotland also took part in the symbolic event.

Dr Morrow, who has held the post since 2014, read a proclamation summoning a new UK Parliament.

The event on the Royal Mile followed Prime Minister Theresa May's decision to call a snap General Election on June 8.
