Parents told to remain focused while driving.
The Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) has called upon parents and guardians of students to be careful while dropping their children off at schools and while picking them up, and stressed that paying little or no attention to children while embarking or disembarking from vehicles could lead to horrific accidents.
Maitha bin Udai, CEO of RTA Traffic & Roads Agency, highlighted the significance of taking suitable precautionary measures to ensure the safety of children in vehicles, while dropping them to schools or other places. "A parent may cause his child to be run-over due to the lack of attention, or preoccupation with matters other than driving while the vehicle is moving," said Maitha.
Maitha underscored the importance of benefiting from the safety features in the vehicle, including safety locks where children are seated, and the baby seat or safety belt, depending on the weight and age of the child on board and stressed that most of run-over accidents sustained by children are triggered by parents' fatal mistakes.
