Parents' split is causing turmoil.

Byline: Joan Burnie

Q MY dad's in prison. My mum says it's up to me whether I visit him or not.

I went once and it was OK, but now I've got a problem.

My girlfriend's mum says that if I go and see him again, she's not to go on seeing me as I will go the same way as my dad.

I know he did bad, but he's my dad. But I also love my girl and she is the best thing in my life.

A I'M sorry about your girlfriend's mum. Would it help if your mum had a word with her and explain the situation?

As you say, he IS your father. Nor should you suffer for his crimes.

But at this difficult time in your life, I also feel you need your girlfriend.

So what about a compromise - you regularly write and phone your dad and cut the visiting to a minimum?

Your girlfriend's mum is just worried about her daughter, so try not to slag her off too much.
