Parcel bomber singles out Tesco customers.

A BLACKMAILER who has sent four parcel bombs through the post in the last three days is targeting Tesco customers.

On Tuesday, a 70-year-old man and his wife escaped unharmed after a package exploded at their home in Bournemouth, Dorset.

Three other parcels were intercepted by police at a Royal Mail sorting office yesterday, all addressed to customers in the Bournemouth/Poole area.

The 70-year-old victim of the parcel bomb said: "There was a very loud bang. The shock made me drop it on the dressing table where it continued to spark and give off a lot of smoke."

John Purnell, director of security for Tesco plc, denied the company's database could be used by the blackmailer to find customers' addresses.

He said: "We go to great lengths to safeguard it."

Tesco first received a blackmail letter demanding money at a local store on September 4.

Seven Tesco customers have also received threatening letters.
