Panty Raid.

IN THE 1950s, VENEZUELANS TIRED OF their military's collusion with dictator Marcos Perez Jimenez sent senior officers insulting presents: women's underwear; meant for those who were not "real" men.

The tradition is back.

Venezuelan generals recently admitted they'd received more than 140 pairs of panties. The revelation in late January followed free speech protests after the arrest of Pablo Aure. The university professor was charged with insulting the armed forces because he wrote about the panty presents. General Eliecer Hurtado lost his job as defense minister in the ruckus.
