ALADDIN, Theatre Royal Newcastle, until January 19 A long time ago in the far-off city of Newcastle, just north of Peking, lived a boy called Aladdin. Theatre Royal favourites Clive Webb (Mr Twankey), Danny Adams (Aladdin) and Chris Hayward (The Empress of China) return in another unmissable show. DICK WHITTINGTON, Customs House, South Shields, until January 6 The Customs House in South Shields is playing host to two Swedish actors this winter, who take lead roles in Dick Whittington. Ola Karlberg and Mia Wallin will also be taking the tradition back to their homeland.

SLEEPING BEAUTY, Gala Theatre Durham, November until January 5 Created in the heart of Durham, Gala's glittering family pantomime is a hilarious ride through the traditional fairytale story. PETER PAN, Sunderland Empire, until January 6 Starring Tom Lister (Emmerdale's Carl King) as the dastardly Captain Hook and children's TV favourite Katy Ashworth (CBeebies I Can Cook) as Peter Pan, plus spectacular costumes and sets, stunning effects, hilarious jokes, song and dance and lots of audience participation, Peter Pan guarantees fantastic festive fun for everyone aged three to 103.

THE LITTLE DETECTIVE AGENCY, Northern Stage Newcastle, until January 5 A new festive treat full of excitement, enchanting songs and a sprinkling of audience participation for the family. A Christmas treat for curious little ones and their confused grown-ups.

THE BORROWERS, Northern Stage Newcastle, until December 29 The Borrowers is the extraordinary story of some rather small, very clever folk who run into trouble when "human beans" work out what they're up to. This classic story is brought to spectacular life.
