Pakistan seeks amendment of APTTA.

ISLAMABAD -- Pakistan seeks amendment of Afghanistan-Pakistan Transit Trade Agreement (APTTA) in the next meeting of Afghanistan-Pakistan Transit Trade Council (APPTC). Such important issues like including Taftan as one of APTTA's nominated entry point for transportation of goods via Turkey's Gul Train decide by former government, but which failed to evolve, since Afghanistan had rather shelved the offer at that time, over the excuse of holding due consensus wit stake holders.

When contacted the officials of Trade ministry said that currently the Gul Train had to cover an arduous journey of 6,500 Islamabad-Tehran-Istanbul route in 11 days, which according to Turkish officials' recommendations could be minimized by including Taftan as one of the entry points.

Trade ministry has said that if Afghanistan conceded to the recommendation of amending APTTA, it would be a historical breakthrough, upgrading Pakistani exports and massive foreign exchange earnings.

Sources expressed hopes that the issue would be raised in the next APPTA meeting, and of Afghanistan acceded to Pakistan's demands for amendment , Pakistan would add new clauses, articles to the agreement.
