Pakistan, Brunei show keen interest to enhance defence cooperation.

RAWALPINDI -- High Commissioner of Brunei Darussalam to Pakistan, Dato Mahmud Saidin called on Secretary Defence Lt. Gen. (Retd) Mohammad Alam Khattak here on Thursday.

Both the countries showed keen interest in taking further defence cooperation existing between Pakistan and Brunei.

During the meeting, the Secretary Defence said that Pakistan attaches great importance to its relations with Brunei.

"Brunei and Pakistan have military to military cooperation in areas related to training and defence. We value our forum of Pakistan-Brunei Joint Defence Working Committee (JDWC) which is useful in enhancing military and defence cooperation", he added.

The fifth Brunei-Pakistan Joint Defence Working Committee (JDWC) is scheduled tentatively for October/November this year and will become very useful in enhancing military and defence cooperation between the two countries.

The High Commissioner reiterated that Brunei appreciates Pakistans efforts in establishing and maintaining peace in the region.

He added that Pakistan remains a stronger partner in international community in its fight against terrorism.

Pakistan thanked Brunei for successfully holding of recent ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) Ministerial Meeting on July 2, 2013.

In the recent meeting Brunei Government extended its support to Pakistan in attaining Full Dialogue Partnership (FDP) in ASEAN.

The Secretary Defence further added that Pakistan condemns terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.

"We have suffered immensely in terms of men and material.

Since terrorism is a global phenomenon therefore it needs joint global effort by the international community," he added.

It may be mentioned here that Pakistan and Brunei share cordial and cooperated relations based on bonds of religion, culture, history as well as shared perceptions on a wide range of regional and global issues.
