Pair met at youth club.

Longwood couple Bob and Janet Velma have celebrated their golden wedding.

Mr and Mrs Velma, of Lowergate, were married in Moldgreen, where they met at a youth club in Moldgreen.

They are pictured (right) and (below) on their wedding day.

Before they married, Mrs Velma, now 71, was living in Quarmby and training to be a nurse.

Mr Velma, now 75, lived in Moldgreen. He had just finished his year of National Service in the Army and was working for Lang's builders. He stayed with the firm for many years, until he was made redundant.

He became a self- employed builder until retiring 13 years ago.

Mrs Velma worked as a nurse in Huddersfield until retiring three years ago.

The couple have one adopted son, Richard, and over the years have fostered 30 children.

Mr Velma was a founder member of cycling group Huddersfield Star Wheelers and completed several long distance rides with them to both John O'Groats and Lands End.

The couple celebrated with a party at Milnsbridge Bowling Club on Sunday.
