127 pages

Sheffer is a self-taught artist who worked for several years in the graphic design industry before deciding to pursue a career as a full- time painter; she exhibits her watercolors along the East Coast and has won national and local art awards. She shares her interest in the medium in a text focusing on the use of texture to add richness to watercolor paintings. Coverage includes the basics of watercolor materials; design and composition; watercolor techniques; seeing light and shadow and translating it into watercolor; and painting a variety of textures, from lace and embroidered silk to silver, polished wood, pearls, porcelain, fruit, flowers, animal fur, glass and shells. Illustrated throughout with full-color reproductions, the text includes several step-by-step demonstrations.
