BELLEVUE, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 10, 2001

Pacific Edge Software Inc. (www.pacificedge.com), a leading supplier of project portfolio management solutions for Global 1000 organizations, hosted Jim Highsmith, director of the Cutter Consortium, for a Webcast presentation to business executives today on the importance of adaptive, agile development when faced with e-projects -- high-speed, high-change projects typical of e-business and e-commerce initiatives.

During the presentation, Highsmith said that in one year, 40 percent of the projects in a company's portfolio would be e-projects. This environment demands that organizations remain agile by promoting collaboration, employing constant testing and redesign, and responding flexibly to change. The organization's ability to do so will determine whether or not the overall project becomes troubled and must be abandoned or fairs successful. Highsmith then suggested four principles to agile development:
-- Individuals and interactions over processes and tools

-- Working software over comprehensive documentation

-- Customer collaboration over contract negotiation

-- Respond to change over following a plan

Assisting organizations in the management of their e-projects is Pacific Edge Software's Project Office Suite. The Suite provides organizations with a dynamic solution that aligns the project portfolio with business strategy.

Pacific Edge's senior director of product management, Donna Fitzgerald, said to executives that in order for the project portfolio to effectively support e-projects, an organization should consider the following:

-- Merge top-down targets with short time frame tactical plans

for increased level of accuracy

-- Evaluate project portfolio results on a frequent basis

-- Have the right people in the organization and engage the right

people on the project

"One of the strengths we offer customers is a project portfolio planning process that accommodates a variety of right ways to do things with a framework that builds a culture of agility," Fitzgerald said.
