Pacific Bay Minerals - Initial TY Results Encouraging.

VANCOUVER, British Columbia--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 19, 1996-- David H. Brett, president, reports Westmin Resources Limited has completed a program of exploration on the Company's TY claims located in the Finlayson/Wolverine Lake area of the South Central Yukon.

The work consisted of geological and geochemical surveys as well as three diamond drill holes totaling 721.1 metres. Westmin can earn a 60 percent interest in the property by spending $500,000 over 3 years.

Two areas of the property were soil sampled. A grid on the southern part of the property returned broad zones highly anomalous in Copper (up to 3,120ppm), Lead (up to 832ppm), Zinc (up to 428ppm), Gold (up to 70ppb), and Silver (up to 3ppm). Approximately 2KM north of this grid, a contour soil survey was carried out down slope from a bedded barite unit and a pyritic felsic horizon.

This survey also returned highly anomalous values in Gold (up to 95ppb), Silver (up to 5.6ppm), Copper (up to 311ppm), Lead (up to 290ppm), Zinc (up to 850ppm) and Barium (up to 10,000ppm).

The three drill holes were collared to test high geochemical values and massive sulphide showings on the southern grid only. All three holes intersected interbedded units of massive grey aphyric ryholite and intermediate to felsic tuffaceous rocks and bottomed in K-feldspar-quartz augen schist.

The felsic rocks display variable amounts of sericite, chlorite and carbonate alteration. Mineralization consisting of trace to several percent disseminated pyrite, lesser pyrrhotite and chalcopyrite was observed in all the holes.

Less commonly, the sulphides occur in fine bands up to several centimeters in width. In hole TY-2-96 a 14 meter interval of rhyolite tuff contains 3-5 percent fine grained pyrite/pyrrhotite bands up to 2 centimeters wide with less than 1 percent chalcopyrite. Assays from all holes are awaited.

Westmin has indicated that they are generally encouraged by the results to date and plan further work including geochemical and geological surveys and diamond drilling on the TY property next season.

Pacific Bay has also completed considerable work on its other land holdings in the Finlayson/Wolverine area. Results are now being compiled and will be released shortly.
