Pacey Proud a holiday snip.

PROUD CHAMP's eye-catching 28.83sec (+10) run in Saturday's first heat certainly struck a cord with Hill's PR man David Hood, as the firm laid the dog to fancy odds in some extremely unusual conditions.

Hood explains: "I was at the Dubai World Cup in March, sweltering in the heat and surrounded by Arabs, who would have been more interested in camel racing than the Greyhound Derby, when I suddenly got confronted by two Englishmen wanting to back Proud Champ.

"I thought they must have gone mad in the mid-day sun, so I happily laid them some 66-1 plus the fractions, pounds 50,000 to pounds 750 eachway.

"After Saturday's effort, they certainly don't look mad now."
