PYRAMID TECHNOLOGY NAMES JOHN CHEN PRESIDENT AND BOARD DIRECTOR

SAN JOSE, Calif., June 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Pyramid Technology (NASDAQ: PYRD) today announced that John Chen, chief operating officer, has been named to the additional post of president and elected to Pyramid's board of directors. His appointment is effective immediately. Chen will continue to report to Richard H. Lussier, chairman of the board and chief executive officer.
Chen came to Pyramid in July 1991 as executive vice president, responsible for Pyramid's hardware and software engineering, manufacturing and MIS operations. "This announcement marks the completion of a year-long plan to transition John to the presidency," said Lussier. During this year, Chen was promoted to chief operating officer and assumed the additional responsibility for customer services and marketing. He now will manage all operations, including worldwide sales. During the last year, Chen has been personally involved in developing Pyramid's growing Asian business.
"Under John Chen's direction, Pyramid has extended its product leadership in high-end open commercial computing, delivering the company's successful MIServer ES product line ahead of schedule," said Lussier. "He has been the driving force behind Pyramid's focus on a total solutions approach to enterprise computing, emphasizing both the services and applications part of our business."
"I am enthusiastic about assuming the presidency at a time when the company is performing well and is poised for dramatic growth as a result of corporations worldwide migrating to open systems for enterprise computing," said Chen.
"Based on his past success in the large systems sector, Chen's appointment clearly reinforces Pyramid's commitment to be an enterprise solutions provider," said James L. Cassell, vice president and service director, Large Computer Strategies, for Gartner Group.
Prior to joining Pyramid, John Chen, 38, spent 13 years at Unisys, where he was vice president and general manager of the UNIX systems group. Chen was instrumental in moving Unisys into the reduced instruction set computing (RISC) market with the introduction of a family of UNIX-based machines built around Motorola's 8800 and Intel's MPUs. He holds a B.S. in electrical engineering from Brown University and an MS in electrical engineering from California Institute of Technology in Pasadena.
