PYRAMID INTRODUCES MISSION-CRITICAL SOFTWARE SUPPORT TO COMPLEMENT HIGH AVAILABILITY PLATFORMS

SAN JOSE, Calif., Oct. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Pyramid Technology Corp. (NASDAQ: PYRD) today announced Mission-Critical Software Support, an innovative solution that manages the software update process for mission- critical applications. Pyramid is the first open systems vendor to provide a streamlined program to help customers maximize system availability, while taking advantage of the latest features and improvements through managed software updates.
"Customers operating in mission-critical environments demand the highest levels of system availability," said Thomas Meyer, vice president, Customer Services Division, for Pyramid Technology. "Efficient management of the software update process is essential to maintaining production readiness. Pyramid developed the Mission- Critical Software Support program for its customers to insure a smooth transition in the update process, while minimizing the impact on operational availability."
Pyramid anticipates many customers of its Nile(TM) Series enterprise server, also announced today, will migrate to the Mission-Critical Software Support program. Early customers of the Nile Series have selected the new high-end server for its system reliability, availability and serviceability (RAS) features. The Mission-Critical Software Support program is an integral component of this product strategy.
Commenting on Pyramid's new program, Bob Johnson, senior industry analyst with Dataquest, said, "Vendors and clients must work closely on mission-critical operations to minimize impact and maximize availability. This type of program reflects a serious open systems effort to build client confidence with customized services, delivered at the point and moment of need by people who understand environments, processes and business issues."
In addition to software updates tailored to the needs of the customer, each Mission Critical Software Support account is supported by a dedicated team of engineering and customer support professionals.
 Custom-Tailored Solution
By acquiring Mission-Critical Software Support, customers can break away from the standard support cycle, receiving maintenance for their current system software for a full year before upgrading. The new program allows software updates for Pyramid enterprise servers to be managed and batched simultaneously at the end of a 12-month period. Enhancements, new features or products released during the year are incorporated at the time of the annual update process.
Customized fixes to urgent problems are provided as needed throughout the year. The Pyramid account team tests the specific software configuration extensively before shipment to the customer for installation. The Mission-Critical Software Support program provides a solution that reduces the customers' resources required for managing updates.
 Availability and Pricing
Mission-Critical Software Support is availability immediately to all Pyramid customers, including Nile Series and MIServer(R) users. Pricing will vary according to system configuration.
