 PYRAMID APPOINTS COO AND CFO
SAN JOSE, Calif., Oct. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Pyramid Technology Corp.

(NASDAQ: PYRD) announced today the promotions of John Chen to chief operating officer and Gary Valenzuela to senior vice president and chief financial officer.
"Both John and Gary have proven themselves to be key contributors to the Pyramid management team," said Richard Lussier, president, chief executive officer and chairman. "These promotions, which carry with them broader responsibilities, will leverage those talents to Pyramid's advantage."
As chief operating officer, Chen will assume some of the responsibilities for day-to-day company operations now held by Lussier.
"With John handling some of the operational issues, I will have more time to devote to Pyramid's strategic directions, and to our relationships with key customers and partners," Lussier said.
Chen, currently executive vice president of Product and Technology Operations, will continue to oversee hardware and software engineering, manufacturing and management information systems. In addition, he will assume overall responsibility for the Customer Services division.
"We have had significant success integrating Pyramid's product design and manufacturing operations," Lussier said. "This organizational change will bring after-sale installation and service under the same umbrella, making it easier for Pyramid to provide value to its customers."
Chen, 37, joined Pyramid in July 1991, following nearly 13 years with Unisys Corp. where he was vice president and general manager of the UNIX systems group. He holds a B.S. degree in electrical engineering from Brown University and a M.S. degree in electrical engineering from California Institute of Technology.
Valenzuela, who is currently vice president of finance, will have an expanded role in directing the company's financial strategy and will assume responsibility for corporate real estate worldwide. He will continue to have responsibility for tax and treasury, financial planning and analysis, accounting, financial reporting, investor relations and risk management.
Prior to joining Pyramid as controller in 1989, Valenzuela, 35, held various controller and financial management positions with Wyse Technology, Syntex Corp. and Peat, Marwick, Mitchell and Co. He holds a B.S. degree in business administration, accounting, from San Jose State University and is a Certified Public Accountant.
