PYRAMID AND COMPUTER ASSOCIATES TEAM TO PROVIDE
 CA-UNICENTER FOR PYRAMID'S DATA CENTER-CLASS MISERVER
SAN JOSE, Calif., Oct. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Pyramid Technology Corporation (NASDAQ: PYRD) and Computer Associates International Inc. (NYSE: CA) today announced a technology and marketing agreement that will provide Computer Associates' CA-UNICENTER (R) on Pyramid's data mainframe-class MIServer (R) systems. Computer Associates is the market leader in systems management software for multiplatform environments, and CA-UNICENTER is Computer Associates' premier integrated software suite for systems and information management.
The relationship between Pyramid and Computer Associates is an essential element of Pyramid's three part strategy to deliver the technology, partners, and services necessary to meet the needs of the data center and provides for joint development and marketing activities for CA-UNICENTER. CA-UNICENTER is a unique integrated solution that brings security, automated storage management, production control, scheduling report distribution, resource accounting, performance monitoring and data center automation to Pyramid's MIServer systems. These powerful management tools have previously been available only for mainframe and midrange computing. By entering into this relationship, Pyramid will be the first open systems vendor to offer a UNIX SVR4- based, large-scale symmetric multiprocessing (SMP) implementation of Computer Associates' software. Pyramid's DC/OSx is used by more companies than any other commercial SMP UNIX SVR4-based operating system.
"Many of our customers have come to us saying that UNIX management software is a critical element for successfully moving their applications off the mainframe and onto open systems," said Edward W. Scott, Jr., executive vice president for Pyramid. "With the combination of Pyramid's mainframe-class MIServer and CA-UNICENTER -- a comprehensive automated systems administration solution, a critical requirement in the mainframe world -- is now available on an open systems platform."
"Computer Associates is committed to helping its clients take advantage of open systems," said Kurt Seibert, vice president of strategic business alliances for Computer Associates. "Our mainframe software clients will harness the power of Pyramid's MIServer systems by managing them with CA-UNICENTER."
Pyramid and Computer Associates expect CA-UNICENTER to be available for general release in 1993.
Founded in 1981 and headquartered in San Jose, Calif., Pyramid Technology manufactures, markets and supports the MIServer line of high- performance, high-availability servers for open data center computing, based on a multiprocessing RISC system architecture and a commercially enhanced version of the UNIX System V Release 4 operating system. Computer Associates International, Inc. (NYSE: CA), with over 7,400 employees around the globe, is the world's leading software company for integrated systems, database management, business applications and application development solutions.
