PYRAMID/ORACLE SYSTEM CHOSEN BY ONE OF LARGEST HOSPITALS IN EUROPE;
 CITY HOSPITAL, NOTTINGHAM, CONTRACT CONTINUES PYRAMID'S SUPPORT
 SAN JOSE, Calif., June 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Pyramid Technology Corp. (NASDAQ: PYRD) announced its partnership with Oracle (NASDAQ: ORCL) to deliver a complete open system solution to Nottingham City Hospital in the United Kingdom. As one of the largest UNIX(R) data center contracts ever awarded in Europe, the deal is potentially worth more than five million dollars to Pyramid. Under the terms of the agreement, the hospital's initial hardware purchases will include five of Pyramid's UNIX-based MIServer(TM) systems, in addition to ongoing service and maintenance.
 Pyramid -- a pioneer and industry leader in high availability open systems -- is one of the few companies providing open systems solutions for large data centers. "The world's largest UNIX-based relational databases are installed on Pyramid systems. The Nottingham contract reaffirms our leadership position as the only open systems company providing large scale data center solutions," noted Tom Stites, Pyramid's vice president of corporate marketing. The Open Systems Solution
 After two years of evaluating products, Nottingham selected Oracle UK to provide a turnkey Hospital Information Support System (HISS) based on Pyramid systems. Oracle selected Pyramid -- over IBM and DEC -- as a partner because of a strong relationship, the best technology, and winning benchmarks.
 Nottingham City Hospital -- with 1,490 beds, one of Europe's largest hospitals -- previously managed its operations with a variety of proprietary departmental systems. The new Pyramid/Oracle system is expected to be in full operation by the spring 1994 and will represent Pyramid's largest single European end-user installation, supporting up to 4,000 users with a range of management and operational support information. Pyramid in the Healthcare Industry
 Pyramid is continuing to provide open systems solutions to healthcare providers with successful healthcare implementations both in the United States and abroad, including: Ulleval Hospital, Norway; University of Brussels Hospital, Belgium; Pharmacia Research, Sweden; and Imperial Cancer Research Fund, United Kingdom.
 "The open data center is a highly effective way of managing information and letting everyone in a hospital have access to its benefits," commented Deborah Stanley, vice president of Pyramid's Database Division. "Pyramid is helping healthcare providers become more productive by streamlining information systems so they can focus resources on quality patient care."
 The soaring cost of healthcare has also contributed to the growing appeal of open systems worldwide. According to Thelma Holland, City Hospital unit general manager, "Privatization, more complex demands, and erosion of capital is forcing the healthcare industry to become more competitive. Hospitals need to control costs, and large scale, high availability open systems servers like Pyramid's are a cost effective way to manage the process of healthcare. Re-engineering the information system, as Nottingham is doing with the Pyramid/Oracle HISS System, increases access to information, cuts down on administration costs, and promotes better patient-centered healthcare." Pyramid Technology Corp.
 Founded in 1981 and headquartered in San Jose, Pyramid Technology manufactures, markets, and supports the MIServer line of high- performance, high-availability open systems servers, based on multiprocessing RISC system architecture and a commercially enhanced version of the UNIX System V Release 4 operating system. Pyramid's systems support the largest UNIX-based relational databases in the world and provide the functionality and features necessary to effectively resize mainframe-class data centers.
