PWC founder Lenore Janis honored by mechanics, tradesmen.
Offering living proof that the concrete ceiling is cracking, The General Society of Mechanics & Tradesmen (GSMT), presented the Craftsmanship Award to Professional Women in Construction (PWC) president Lenore Jenis at the organization's annual dinner dance.
The award recognizes those who demonstrate leadership in their fields end promote exceptional professional standards.
Accepting the honor on behalf of PWC "and the groundbreaking women who trailblazed a path," Janis said, "Your award to me speaks volumes about how much progress has been made since 1980 when a dozen business and professional women met to address the difficulties of advancing in the construction industry."
GSMT president Victoria Dengel presented the award, a gilded Laurel Leaf, to Janis for her "unique contributions to the building and construction industry." The wrought iron sculpture was created by GMST member Jean Wiart, hand forged at Wiart's atelier, Les Metalliers Champenois Corp. of Paterson, NJ, then gilded by Beptlsta Gohard with gold donated by a GSMT member.
The GSMT presented its first Civic Leadership Award to philanthropist John Catsimatidis, president and CEO of RedApple Group, for his significant contributions to educational, civic and medical organizations.
Applauding the tuition-free classes offered by The Mechanics Institute since 1858, the educational arm of the GSMT, Catsimatidis stressed the value of continuing education and learning management skills.
