PURUS POLLUTION CONTROL EQUIPMENT GETS NOD FROM CALIFORNIA REGULATORY AGENCY

SAN JOSE, Calif., Feb. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Purus Inc., a Silicon Valley-based provider of state-of-the-art equipment for treatment of contaminated air, water and soil, has been given approval by two California Air Quality Management Districts to operate its equipment at sites in Marin and Los Angeles counties. The equipment will remove and recover the gasoline and chlorinated solvents from polluted soil zones. The Air Quality Districts are one of the governing agencies which reviews environmental cleanup plans for contaminated sites when potential air emissions can occur.
Passing the Test at the Local Level
Purus systems have been permitted by air districts in other states such as Arizona, Texas and Nebraska, but passing the test in California was a major milestone for the company, said Jim Tann, vice president of sales for Purus. "California has the toughest laws governing pollution control equipment in the country, and obtaining a permit can be a major hurdle for equipment manufacturers; particularly for companies like Purus who are developing new treatment technologies," said Tann. "Receiving the go-ahead from both the Bay Area and the South Coast Air Quality Management Districts essentially represents a stamp of approval for our technology."
Purus introduced its product line to the environmental field in early 1992 and has sold systems throughout the United States. The Purus system utilizes a revolutionary process to clean up contaminated air, water and soil at environmental restoration projects, and is also used to reduce air pollution from industrial processes. The company pioneered the use of specialized materials that are capable of filtering and recovering contaminants such as fuels or industrial solvents resulting from underground storage tank leaks or industrial process wastes. The compounds can then be recycled for a fraction of the cost of other cleanup techniques, such as incineration.
