PURE TECH INTERNATIONAL SIGNS SUPPLY AND PROCESSING AGREEMENT WITH PEPSI-COLA OF SOUTHERN MAINE; PURE TECH TO EXPAND OPERATIONS INTO MAINE

SOMERSET, N.J., Nov. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Pure Tech International, Inc. (NASDAQ: PURT; BOS: PUR) today announced that it has entered into a long term post-consumer container supply and processing agreement with Seltzer & Rydholm, Inc. of Auburn, Maine, effective January 15, 1994. Seltzer & Rydholm are the exclusive bottlers of Pepsi-Cola products for Southern Maine. Under terms of the agreement, Seltzer & Rydholm will make available to Pure Tech its entire supply of post-consumer beverage containers, consisting of PET and glass bottles, and aluminum cans. Pure Tech will immediately open a previously planned intermediary processing facility in Maine to handle this volume of recyclables.
Mr. David Katz, President of Pure Tech said, "We are pleased that Seltzer & Rydholm has entered into this exclusive arrangement with Pure Tech. Supply of post-consumer PET bottles is key to the long term success of our plastics recycling operation. This is the third long term supply contract that a Pepsi-Cola bottler has entered into with Pure Tech in the past year. This additional source of supply will be baled in our new Maine facility and shipped for final processing to our Springfield, Massachusetts plant. We anticipate that the recycled PET flake and pellets produced by Pure Tech from this supply will be sold primarily into the higher end-use markets. These markets include bottle-to-bottle return, new engineered plastics and packaging materials."
Mr. Joseph Mastroianni, Vice President of Pure Tech added, "We will process the glass and aluminum received through this agreement at our new location in Maine and market these goods to our traditional customers for those commodities. We will actively seek other sources of supply in this region to maximize our throughput and profitability."
Pure Tech International, Inc. is engaged in the recycling of post- consumer containers made of aluminum, glass, steel and plastic and in plastics injection molding. Pure Tech operates facilities in California, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York and North Carolina.
