PURE TECH INTERNATIONAL, INC. ANNOUNCES RECORD ANNUAL SALES AND EARNINGS

SOMERSET, N.J., Oct. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Pure Tech International, Inc. (NASDAQ-NMS: PURT; BOS: PUR), today announced record sales and earnings for its fiscal year ended June 30, 1993.
Net sales increased to a record $23,591,495 for the year compared to $13,257,742 for the previous fiscal year. Net earnings from continuing operations are a record $2,374,291, or $0.39 per primary share compared with net earnings from continuing operations of $1,143,840, or $0.34 per primary share of a year ago.
Commenting on the results, Mr. David C. Katz, president of Pure Tech International, said, "We are pleased with the significant progress Pure Tech has made in fiscal 1993. Pure Tech's record revenues and earnings reflect the company's continuing strategy of growth through the manufacturing and marketing of low cost, value added plastic products and engineered materials and through strategic acquisitions. We are especially pleased that the company has maintained its high quality standards while expanding production capacities nearly tenfold."
Simon Sinnreich, chairman of Pure Tech International said, "The past year has been busy and exciting and we have accomplished the majority of our significant objectives. In fiscal 1993 Pure Tech International expanded production capacity at its Springfield, Mass. plant, entered into a long term supply contract with The Pepsi-Cola Bottling Company in Michigan leased a plastics washing and grinding facility and two plastic grinding plants to process this supply, acquired an operating plastic recycling facility in Trenton, N.J. and signed a long term supply contract with the former owner and operator of the plant. Near the end of the fiscal year Pure Tech acquired Styrex Industries, Inc., an injection molding operation located in High Point, N.C. Shortly after the end of the fiscal year, the company acquired APR Plastic Processing, Inc., a plastic recycling operation in East Farmingdale, N.Y. and entered into a long term supply contract with Pepsi-Cola Bottling of New York. On July 21 this year the company entered into a letter of intent to acquire Martin Color-Fi, Inc. (NASDAQ-NMS: MRCF), a leading PET recycler and manufacturer of polyester fiber and pellets."
Mr. Sinnreich continued, "Although our sales and earnings both set records, our earnings for the year were somewhat negatively impacted by significant expenses incurred in the last quarter integrating the Trenton facility, acquiring Styrex, upgrading our Newark, N.J. MRF plant and one time charges from the consolidation of our Grand Rapids, Mich. plants and the closing of our Framingham, Mass. facility. These integrations, consolidations and upgrades of our facilities were completed early in the first quarter of the current fiscal year."
"We remain solidly optimistic about our future. Based on preliminary data, September will be a record month in all categories and early indications are that October will also be excellent. Only one year ago, Pure Tech had an annual PET production capacity of about 12 million pounds with a supply base of approximately the same. Today our capacity is at 100 million pounds per year with a matching supply. Upon completion of the Martin transaction, we will have a total PET processing capacity of over 200 million pounds."
Pure Tech International, Inc. is engaged in the recycling of post-consumer containers made of aluminum, glass, steel and plastic and in plastic injection molding. Pure Tech operates facilities in Connecticut, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York and North Carolina.
