PURE TECH INTERNATIONAL, INC. REPORTS RECORD QUARTERLY SALES AND EARNINGS

SOMERSET, N.J., May 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Pure Tech International, Inc. (NASDAQ-NMS: PURT) today announced record sales and earnings for its third quarter ended March 31, 1993.
Net sales increased to a record $6,296,000 and $14,471,278 for the three and nine month periods ending March 31, 1993 compared to $3,115,365 and $10,042,660 for the three and nine month periods of a year ago. Net earnings from continuing operations are a record $581,895 and $1,671,071 for the current three and nine month periods, or $0.14 and $0.32 per primary share, compared with profits from continuing operations of $130,983 and $238,992, or $0.06 and $0.13 per primary share for the comparable periods of a year ago.
Commenting on the results, David C. Katz, president of Pure Tech International, said, "We're extremely pleased by our most recent quarterly and nine month results. Our recent additions in Michigan and New Jersey are contributing to our overall growth. Demand for our high quality PET products remains strong. These results confirm that Pure Tech is on target to meet its ambitious growth plans."
Mr. Katz also stated, "During this quarter it became obvious that we had a duplication of effort and that consolidation of some of our operations was necessary. We have decided to close one of our Grand Rapids, Mich. satellite plants. This decision is reflected in our financial reporting with an estimated one-time charge of $345,000, or $0.05 per primary share for the three and nine month periods, for the disposal of the discontinued operation. We have also recorded a charge for this discontinued operation of $105,827 and $382,396, or $0.01 and $0.05 per primary share for the three and nine month periods. We are continually looking for ways to improve our operating efficiencies."
Mr. Simon Sinnreich, chairman of Pure Tech International said, "Once again we are extremely pleased to have met our near term goals and look forward to continued progress. We remain committed to growth through acquisition and/or joint venture and will explore every opportunity available to us."
Pure Tech International, Inc. is engaged in the recycling of post- consumer containers made of aluminum, glass, steel and plastic and operates recycling facilities in New Jersey, Connecticut, Michigan and Massachusetts.
