PURE TECH INTERNATIONAL, INC. INCREASES RECYCLING CAPACITY TO OVER 75 MILLION POUNDS PER YEAR

SOMERSET, N.J., Feb. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Pure Tech International, Inc. (NASDAQ-NMS: PURT; NASDAQ: PURTZ; BOS: PUR) today announced that it has entered into an agreement with Container Recycling, Inc. Under terms of the agreement, Pure Tech will lease and operate three CRI facilities covering 95,000 square feet and Pure Tech will use at least two of the plants to service the company's recently announced contract with the Pepsi-Cola Bottling Company.
Speaking on behalf of Pure Tech, Mr. Simon Sinnreich, chairman of the board, stated, "The agreement with CRI was necessary in order to process the additional volume of post-consumer PET containers that we have acquired in Michigan as a result of our Pepsi contract. This contract provides Pure Tech with up to an additional 27 million pounds of PET bottles per year. Upon signing this contract, the company immediately sought to expand its recycling capacity within the state of Michigan."
Mr. Sinnreich continued, "The CRI facility in Livonia, Michigan is a fully equipped, operational recycling plant and immediately increases Pure Tech's recycling capacity. We will immediately modify the plant to meet our quality specifications."
Pure Tech will lease three CRI facilities. One of these is a recently completed 57,000 sq. ft. plant located in Livonia, Michigan which was designed to recycle up to 26 million pounds of post-consumer bottles per year. A second facility located in Howell, Michigan is situated adjacent to Pepsi's production plant and will receive and partially process approximately 60 percent of the Pepsi material. The third location, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, will service post-consumer bottles from other sources in the western part of the state.
Mr. David Katz, president of Pure Tech International, Inc. stated, "The company has been moving aggressively towards expanding its supply and was in need of additional production capability. With the CRI agreement in place, Pure Tech's recycling capacity has now increased to over 75 million pounds per year."
Mr. Katz continued, "Pure Tech will immediately assume operations of the CRI facilities under the lease agreement. Pure Tech and CRI each have the option, under certain circumstances, to cause CRI to sell the facilities to Pure Tech. Pure Tech is committed to further growth and will continue to explore additional lease and purchase opportunities. We believe that Pure Tech is now the second largest recycler of post- consumer containers in the world."
Pure Tech also announced that with the new Michigan facilities under its control, it will look to combine some operations with its already existing Grand Rapids location. "We have already begun the review process with an eye toward consolidation and will take any action necessary to rationalize our operations." Mr. Sinnreich stated.
Pure Tech International, Inc. is engaged in the recycling of post- consumer containers made of aluminum, glass, steel and plastic and now operates a total of ten recycling facilities in New Jersey, Connecticut, Michigan and Massachusetts.
