PUGET POWER OFFERS CASH TO TEACHERS
BELLEVUE, Wash., June 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Puget Sound Power & Light

Co. today announced it will award 12 $400 mini-grants to K-12 teachers in the company's nine-county service territory in October to be used on classroom projects.
The purpose of the second annual Puget Power Mini-Grant Program is to cover the costs of implementing new and creative ideas that promote energy conservation, environmental awareness, reading, writing and scientific or mathematical literacy.
Teachers interested in applying for a Puget Power Mini-Grant need to complete an application form including purpose, costs and expected outcomes of the project. All projects must be "activity-based," and should result in students learning more about their world. Puget Power Mini-Grant Program applications were sent to all area schools on May 18.
Program proposals are due by June 15. Recipients will be notified by mail Aug. 14, and the award presentations will be made at the various Puget Power Teachers' Workshops held Oct. 12-17. Each award recipient will be responsible for preparing a final report on their project by May 28, 1993.
Last year's King County recipients were: Diane Bergman of Panther Lake Elementary in Kent; Douglas Smith of Twin Lakes Elementary in Federal Way; Ron Thompson of Sammamish High School in Bellevue; Linda McIntosh of Wellington Elementary in Woodinville.
For a copy of the application or to learn more about the Puget Power Mini-Grant Program, teachers should contact Dave Reid at 206-462-3325, or Wendy Micklus at 206-462-3326.
