PUBLICATION ANNOUNCES THE RELEASE OF THE "MONITOR 100" LIST
MINNEAPOLIS, May 12 /PRNewswire/ -- The Restaurant Finance Monitor announced the publication of the first "Monitor 100" list in its May issue. The Monitor is a monthly newsletter publication for senior restaurant industry executives.
The "Monitor 100" ranks the top 100 chain restaurant franchises in the nation by annual revenues. The number one franchisee on the list this year is Spartan Food Systems, Spartanburg, S.C., with 500 Hardee's units and $550 million in estimated revenue for 1992. The remaining top 10 are as follows:
 2. Boddie-Noell Enterprises; Rocky Mount, N.C.; 300 Hardee's; $325 million.
 3. TPI Restaurants; Memphis; 171 Shoney's and 66 Captain D's; $280 million.
 4. Marriott Corporation; Washington, D.C.; 505 various franchised units; $225 million.
 5. Harman Management Corp.; Los Altos, Calif.; 245 KFC; $215 million.
 6. National Pizza Company; Pittsburg, Kan.; 369 Pizza Hut; $200 million.
 7. RTM, Inc.; Atlanta; 273 Arby's; $175 million.
 8. Carrols Corporation; Syracuse, N.Y.; 166 Burger King; $155 million.
 9. Davco Food; Crofton, Md.; 160 Wendy's; $135 million.
 10. RPM Pizza; Gulfport, Miss.; 269 Domino's Pizza; $130 million.
"We've created a list that no one else has before -- one many people will be interested in, especially those in the finance community," said Restaurant Finance Monitor Publisher John M. Hamburger. "The misconception that restaurant franchisees are 'mom and pop' establishments is prevalent despite the fact that they're very significant companies. We knew these companies were substantial, but we never before knew how substantial. Now we do."
The Monitor provides information to restaurant executives such as finance sources, feature articles on restaurant companies, earnings reports and columns by well-known industry insiders. The "Monitor 100" issue is available by contacting the editor.
The Restaurant Finance Monitor is the sponsor of the third annual Restaurant Finance and Development Conference to be held Nov. 12 and 13, 1992, at the Fairmont Hotel, Chicago. The conference provides a forum for multi-unit restaurant company owners and senior executives to meet with banks, finance and insurance companies, brokerage firms, real estate developers, and other financial intermediaries, with a focus on the financial products available. The two-day conference will include workshops discussing issues on the cutting edge of restaurant finance and development such as taxation, site selection and financial strategies.
