PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENTS LAUNCH LIBERTY MUTUAL
 TEEN SAFE-DRIVING PROGRAM
BOSTON, April 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Public service announcements (PSAs) will begin airing nationally this weekend to launch Liberty Mutual Insurance Group's national teen safe driving program, entitled "Avoiding Collisions." The program is being sponsored in conjunction with Students Against Driving Drunk (SADD) and the National Safety Council, and will be available nationally in mid-May. The PSAs will air during the Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf on ABC.
The PSAs were developed and produced by Wells Rich and Greene BDDP Advertising in New York. "Teenage driving is a serious problem in this country today. We are pleased that we had the opportunity to work with Liberty Mutual to help prevent this tragedy," said Mary Moore, vice chairman and chief creative officer at Wells Rich and Greene BDDP. Creative credits belong to: John Petruney, copywriter, and Michael Seymour, art director. Agnew, Carter, McCarthy, Inc., Boston, is handling public relations for this program.
As part of Liberty Mutual's ongoing commitment to reducing teen driving accidents, the program aims to encourage open dialogue between parents and teens on the importance of safe driving habits. "Avoiding Collisions" features a brochure/discussion guide, video, teaching materials for educators, as well as the public service announcements.
Perennially, automobile fatalities are the number one cause of death for teenagers in the United States. According to the National Safety Council, teenage drivers are involved in close to three million accidents each year. "Avoiding Collisions" addresses the four basic issues related to teen accidents and fatalities -- speeding, drinking, not using safety belts and nighttime driving.
"We believe families must work together through honest communication to reduce the risk and number of teen auto accidents. Our main goal is to help start a dialogue between teens and their parents," explains John Conners, executive vice president and manager of personal markets, Liberty Mutual Insurance Group.
According to Bill Cullinane, executive director of SADD, "'Avoiding Collisions' used in conjunction with SADD's unique 'Contract for Life,' will create effective tools to help families keep teens safe. This is especially vital as we approach prom and graduation season."
Robert W. O'Brien, director of public relations, National Safety Council said, "This new program gives teens and parents a format to discuss the important challenges that confront every driver. Our hope is that an ongoing dialogue will result and that safe, responsible drivers will emerge."
Concerned teens and parents will have access to the video and discussion guide through local Liberty Mutual offices, National Safety Council chapters and SADD chapters.
