PUBLIC SCHOOLS UNDER PRIVATE MANAGEMENT EDUCATION ALTERNATIVES
 AND KPMG FORM ALLIANCE
MINNEAPOLIS, Nov. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Education Alternatives, Inc. and KPMG Peat Marwick announced today that they have formed an alliance to cooperatively seek and manage entire public school districts under private management. This is the same type of agreement announced last month by EAI with Johnson Controls World Services, Inc.
"The combined skills and services of EAI, Johnson Controls and Peat Marwick provide a truly unique set of expertise to address the significant challenges facing this nation in the education of its children," said John T. Golle, chairman and CEO of Education Alternatives. "By combining the educational management expertise of EAI, with the facility management skills of Johnson Controls and now the accounting, financial management and system expertise of Peat Marwick, we feel we can meet the variety of needs from the smallest to largest school districts."
EAI provides educational management and consulting services with the sale of proprietary products. In addition to operating their own Tesseract(R) Schools, they manage a public school in Dade County, Fla., which has received much attention. Under the leadership of Dr. David Bennett, president of EAI and former superintendent of St. Paul Schools, the company has expanded its capabilities to manage entire districts.
Last week, Betty Castor, state commissioner of education for the State of Florida announced an alliance with EAI which in her words, "has the potential to dramatically reshape the way Florida's schools are organized and operated."
Jack Miller, KPMG Peat Marwick partner and national director of Government Services, said, "Our firm is totally committed to helping improve the educational offering to America's children however we can. We believe this alliance with Education Alternatives and Johnson Controls will allow schools and districts of all sizes to benefit greatly from our combined expertise."
Johnson Controls World Services provides state-of-the-art facility management, operations, maintenance, and support services to more than 6,000 government and commercial facilities within the United States and worldwide, including many school districts, and campus-like settings.
KPMG Peat Marwick, the worlds largest professional accounting and consulting firm, annually provides audit, tax and financial management, operations, organizational, human resource and information technology services to over 2,000 governmental entities, including school districts and Departments of Education. Peat Marwick has been serving the governmental sector since 1905.
