ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984-SECTION 14(1)(a) AND THE MOTORWAYS TRAFFIC (ENGLAND AND WALES) REGULATIONS 1982 -REGULATION 16(2) THE M6 MOTORWAY (JUNCTION 6, GRAVELLY HILL INTERCHANGE) (LINK ROADS) (TEMPORARY RESTRICTION AND PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC) ORDER 2017 NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that Highways England Company Limited (Company No. 9346363) has made an Order on the M6 Motorway at Junction 6, in the City of Birmingham, to allow viaduct maintenance and repair works, replacement of gantries, resurfacing and cyclical maintenance to be carried out.

The effect of the Order will be to, at different times - (1) impose, at different times, a speed restriction of 30 miles per hour on the link road, at M6 Junction 6, leading - i. from the northbound carriageway of the M6, to the A38(M) Aston Expressway; ii. from the northbound carriageway of the M6 to its roundabout junction with the A5127 Gravelly Hill, A38 Tyburn Road and Slade Road, known as Salford Circus; iii. from the southbound carriageway of M6, to the A38(M) Aston Expressway; iv. from the southbound carriageway of the M6, to Salford Circus; v. to the southbound carriageway of the M6, from the A38(M) Aston Expressway; vi. to the northbound carriageway of the M6, from the A38(M) Aston Expressway; vii. from the A38(M) Aston Expressway, to the A5127 Gravelly Hill; viii. from the A38(M) Aston Expressway, to A38 Tyburn Road; ix. to the A38(M) Aston Expressway, from A5127 Gravelly Hill; x. to the southbound carriageway of the M6, from Salford Circus; xi. to the northbound carriageway of the M6, from Salford Circus; and xii. to the A38(M) Aston Expressway, from A38 Tyburn Road; (2) close, at different times, any link road described at (1) above; (3) close lanes of the lengths of the link roads described in (1) above and allow vehicles to use the hard shoulder; (4) prohibit vehicles with an overall width exceeding 3 metres from entering or proceeding in lane 1 of the lengths of the link roads described in (1) above, when 2 lanes are running; (5) prohibit vehicles with an overall width exceeding 3 metres from entering or proceeding in lane 2 of the lengths of the link roads described in (1) above, when 2 lanes are running; and (6) prohibit vehicles with an overall width exceeding 3.5 metres from entering or proceeding in the lengths of link roads described in (1) above, when only 1 lane is running.

The work will be carried out in phases and is expected to start on Friday 7 July 2017 and continue for approximately six months. The Order will come into force on Thursday 6 July 2017. All closures will take place either overnight between the hours of 20:00 and 06:00, or for full 24 hour per day periods. The closures described in (2) above will be subject, at different times, to a full 24 hours per day closure for a period of 12 weeks during the works duration. The speed restrictions and width restrictions will be in force 24 hours a day from 00.01 on 7 July 2017, for the duration of the works. Vehicles being used for special forces purposes will be exempt from the speed restriction. Vehicles being used for police, fire brigade or ambulance purposes will be exempt from the speed restriction, closures and width restrictions. Vehicles being used in connection with the works or by a traffic officer will be exempt from the closures and width restrictions. Diversion routes via A5127 Lichfield Road, A5127 Aston Road, A34 Birmingham Road, Dartmouth Circus, Salford Circus, and alternative junctions of the M6 will be signed.
