PUBLIC HEARING SCHEDULED ON MICHIGAN'S COMMUNITY MENTAL HEALTH SYSTEM
LANSING, Mich., Jan. 31 /PRNewswire/ -- State Rep. Pat Gagliardi (D-Drummond Island) said the special House committee investigating Michigan's community mental health system will hold a public hearing from 1-5 p.m. Monday, Feb. 3, at the City-County Building, at Jefferson and Woodward avenues, across from the Renaissance Center, in Detroit.
"The Engler administration wants to close all state-run mental health institutions by 1994 and turn over the caseload to the community mental health system," said Rep. Gagliardi, who chairs the committee. "Our committee is investigating whether the community mental health system has the structure and resources to absorb the tremendous surge in people needing care after the institutions are shut down."
Persons wishing to testify before the committee should contact House staff members at the hearing site.
