LAS VEGAS, Jan. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Psygnosis, Limited, a division of Sony Electronic Publishing Company, announced today the release of its award-winning game Lemmings(TM) for the 3DO(TM) Interactive Multiplayer(TM) system. The amusingly animated Lemmings characters and the intellectually challenging game play have combined to make Lemmings an international hit since its introduction in 1991. It has attracted an unusually broad audience that crosses gender, age and cultural barriers which have traditionally limited the breadth of the game-playing audience.
Shown for the first time at the winter Consumer Electronics Show (booth 6509), Lemmings for the 3DO Interactive Multiplayer system includes high-resolution 3D cartoon animation along with CD-quality stereo sound with special sound effects and 21 songs. The game has 120 increasingly difficult levels intended for the novice as well as the experienced game player. Lemmings also is mouse-compatible for the 3DO Interactive Multiplayer system.
Since its introduction in 1991, Lemmings has taken the computer and entertainment world by storm earning over 21 international awards, including the prestigious Best Home Entertainment Program and Best Arcade Action Program for 1991 by the Software Publishers Association in the United States. Lemmings has garnered Game of the Year awards from various organizations in the United Kingdom, France and Germany, and has received top honors from leading video game, consumer and computer publications worldwide.
"The 3DO Interactive Multiplayer system is an ideal platform for our Lemmings game." said Jerry Wolosenko, CEO of Psygnosis/North America. "As a technically advanced system targeted at both entertainment and educational uses in the home, the 3DO system provides an opportunity for Lemmings to reach even more families. It is a game ideally suited for every member of the family, young and old alike. It is one of a handful of games on the market which require both quick reflexes and strategic thinking in order to solve each level. Additionally, the game encourages cooperation when being played by more than one person."
