PSL: Lifesavers shut down HD Spikers.

By Jerome Lagunzad

Generika-Ayala primed up for the playoff round with an impressive 25-22, 25-20, 25-20 victory over Cignal last night in the 2018 Chooks to Go-Philippine Superliga (PSL) Grand Prix at The Arena in San Juan City.

Trinidad and Tobago import Darlene Ramdin stood tall on the offensive end with 16 attacks and a service ace while setter April Hingpit made 27 excellent sets and added 12 digs to help the Lifesavers repeat over the HD Spikers in 82 minutes of play.

American reinforcement Stix Horton had 18 points, 16 of them off kills, while libero Jheck Dionel tallied 17 excellent digs but Cignal struggled to overcome the abrupt exit of Bosnian import Sanja Milanovic due to a right ankle injury.

The straight-sets win hardly made any difference (standings-wise) for Generika-Ayala which ended up at seventh spot with a 3-7 mark with a total of eight points, just a solitary point behind Cignal.

But the Lifesavers could give themselves a timely booster ahead of their quarterfinal showdown with No. 2 Petron Blaze Spikers who will be armed with a twice-to-beat advantage.

The HD Spikers will also face such predicament against third-ranked Cocolife Asset Managers in the Last 8 round.
