PSE&G INVESTIGATES BRIEF LEAK OF CHLORINATED WATER
JERSEY CITY, N.J., Jan. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Operators at Public

Service Electric and Gas Company's (PSE&G) Hudson Generating Station are investigating the cause of a brief leak of chlorinated water that occurred at approximately 10:15 a.m. this morning. PSE&G estimated that no more than two pounds of chlorine was released to the atmosphere resulting from evaporation of the chlorinated water. The incident did not pose a public health or safety threat.
The leak occurred in piping near the station's intake screen well. This is where water to cool electric generating equipment is drawn into the plant from the Hackensack River. Chlorine is added to the water to help keep plant systems free of algae and other contaminants. The leak was stopped by shutting down the chlorinating system.
One PSE&G employee was treated by station first aid personnel for possible exposure to the chlorine and was later transported to Jersey City Medical Center for observation.
Appropriate local and state authorities were notified.
