 PSE&G CREATES NEW PROGRAM TO AVOID SHUT-OFF SERVICE FOR UNEMPLOYED
 NEWARK, N.J., March 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Public Service Electric and Gas Company (PSE&G) announced today it will begin a new program designed to avoid shut-off of service for recently unemployed residential customers.
 Through the Customer Assistance Repayment Extension (CARE) program, PSE&G residential customers who are unemployed because of the recession can take advantage of extended bill payment arrangements, waivers of security deposits and free energy conservation services. The program will provide up to $250 of free caulking and weatherstripping.
 CARE is designed to help unemployed customers who previously had satisfactory PSE&G payment records but are now unable to pay their entire PSE&G bills.
 "We are well aware many of our customers are hurting from the recession," said Louis L. Rizzi, vice president-customer services. Our CARE program will provide immediate assistance and reduce the size of future bills."
 Eligible customers may sign up for the CARE program by calling the toll-free PSE&G collection department telephone number shown on their bills.
