PSA is QUIDs In.

The Pickles and Sauces Association has successfully negotiated on behalf of its members with regard to QUID (Quantity Ingredient Declaration). The rules require that purchasers be informed of specific quantities of certain ingredients.

As readers may know, the PSA successfully lobbied to have the appropriate member food products exempted from initial MAFF Guidance Notes, for example, in cases where the main ingredient quantity does not affect purchasing decisions.

The PSA, tel:020 7836 2450, will also continue to promote the same views on behalf of its members at EU level.

For member products, which will be subject to revised labelling, due to the introduction of QUID, the PSA has worked to ensure that the text reflects both consumer and manufacturer interests, whilst at the same time complying with the requirements of the enforcement agencies.

Due to the complexity of declaring 'tomatoes' in products prepared with tomato puree, the PSA continues to hold internal discussions as to how best to declare 'tomatoes', so that the information provided to the consumer is clear and meaningful.
